If you use smart home technology, here are four ways to stay secure.

There has never been a better time to make sure that your smart home is cyber-secure. Today I’ll share four recommendations to help keep your home safe and running efficiently.

1. Use a private network. Having a separate network to run all your smart devices will provide you with better security and a more stable connection. If you set up a guest network to use, you can do this without purchasing another router.

2. Do your research. Review the privacy settings of each smart device that you purchase to better understand the data they use and to what extent. In other words, read through your privacy rights and look up the Google reviews for your products to see what others are saying about their security features.

3. Stay on top of your device updates. Software updates often include improved security features, so be sure to keep your devices up to date.

4. Use a virtual private network (VPN). When using a public Wi-Fi network to control or access your smart devices, use a VPN to establish a secure, encrypted connection. VPNs are useful for other types of internet browsing, as well.
