Here are five ways you can stay safe during your open house.

Are you looking to sell your home? If so, open houses are a great way to get more eyes on your sale. However, how can you let a bunch of strangers into your home while staying safe? Today I want to talk about five ways to keep your property safe while holding open houses:

1. Put cameras inside and outside your house. Cameras are a huge deterrent for anyone thinking about stealing in your home. Put them outside and in key rooms, such as the master bedroom.

2. Remove temptations. If you have fine jewelry or expensive trinkets lying around, you might want to put them in a safe before an open house. Make sure to gather up personal information as well, such as passports, financial documents, and keys.

3. Empty the medicine cabinet. This is a very important one. Put your medicines in a safe place so that thieves aren’t tempted.

4. Child-proof your home. If you live in an area that is attractive to families, there may be children coming through your home. If you have children, make sure you put away anything that matters to them so that other kids don’t steal or break their things. To be proactive, you could pick out one toy or game that isn’t special to your kids and put it out for other children to play with.

5. Call your insurance agent. Some people are covered for open houses, and if you are, you won’t have to worry about thieves. Just take some pictures to serve as proof in case of a problem.
