Here are five handy tips if you need to do some downsizing in your home.
If you or someone you know is looking to downsize, here are my five best tips for going about it:
1. Make it a special event. If you feel you need less space and need to declutter, make it a special event. Allocate some time in your calendar over a few weeks. You want results, and you’ll start feeling better once you see them.
2. Choose items that spark joy. When you’re going through items and getting rid of stuff, keep the meaningful things. It makes it easier to get rid of the items that don’t give you that feeling.
3. Think of the terms and categories. This is a great place to be because categorizing things helps you organize your possessions and your thoughts at the same time. It keeps you more focused and helps move the process along.
4. Begin with lower-value items. Those are easier to declutter and get rid of, so start with them.
5. Trust your intuition. Believe in what your heart tells you. Ask yourself if an item sparks joy. If it doesn’t right away, then you don’t need to keep it, and you can downsize it.
